Cracking Your Church's Culture Code
By Samuel Chand

Cracking Your Church's Culture Code: Seven Keys to Unleashing Vision and Inspiration by Samuel R. Chand, John Wiley & Sons, 2010.

Dr. Sam Chand has done it again. His book Cracking Your Church’s Culture Code is a fascinating look at the inner being of the church. It is not a book for the lazy pastor. It is one for the serious student of the greatest enterprise on earth.

At the end of the day you come away with a clear understanding that in virtually any organization culture trumps vision and strategy everyday. Why else do we see great vision show up at the doorstep and fall flat on its face? Why else do we see ho-hum strategy produce results far beyond our expectations? When the right culture is in place, the sky is the limit to what God can do in and through your church.

Cracking Your Church’s Culture Code does not articulate an easy 1-2-3 process to success. It is a book of thoughtful examination of who you are as a leader and as a church. It provides tremendous guidance into culture building.

Chand points leaders of growing churches to reinvention. He quotes Stephen Covey in suggesting, “Reinvent yourself every three years … so that you can remain relevant and able to make new contributions in a world of constant change. … Reinvention is the key to longevity.” That’s worth it for every pastor in America.

You have to love the lead quote of the final chapter of the book:

“I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times I’ve been trusted to take the winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” —Michael Jordan.

You can change culture. Make it true for your church!
