Living in the Spirit
By Dr. George O. Wood
What I love about this book is that Dr. George Wood speaks directly to pastors instructing them to instruct the Body. How long have we had lay people going off willy-nilly (my term) "in the Spirit" while the pastor is petrified to teach and instruct? Guess what, you're the pastor and it's your job to teach and define order in the service. Dr. Wood does a masterful and eloquent job in his admonition to that end.
Although this is a book written primarily to Pentecostals, I found it to be one that speaks to all segments of Christianity today. The back cover of Living in the Spirit says it well. "Dr. Wood's ability to express orthodox Pentecostal theology in creative and refreshing ways is unique." I could not agree more.
To the person who wonders what all the whoopla is about, Dr. Wood communicates to the reader that living in the Spirit affects personal spirituality - both in worship and in witness - as it brings believers into greater intimacy with God and equips those believers to proclaim the message of Jesus in the world.
To the non-Pentecostal, Living in the Spirit offers inspiration and instruction concerning the vital role of the Holy Spirit's presence in life and ministry. Further, whether the reader is in agreement or not, this book helps people understand why and how a Pentecostal comes to their conclusions on the person and work of the Holy Spirit.
I recommend this outstanding book by George Wood. He writes as a pastor and communicates a balanced understanding of Scripture sometimes missing in Pentecostal writings of the past.
On one hand this book makes sense. On the other, you are left with the awe and wonder of a God who would send this third person of the Trinity to be with us in our daily walk. I'm thankful he did.
