Primal: A quest for the lost soul of Christianity By Mark Batterson
Primal:
A quest for the lost soul of Christianity. That
is a title and subtitle worthy of everyone’s attention. This book truly lives up to its billing
by author and friend, Mark Batterson.
Batterson takes the very
familiar passage of scripture in Mark 12:30, “Love the lord your God with all
your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your
strength” and challenges us to do just that. For those who have been in the faith for years it is too
easy to say, “Yeah, I do that.”
But do we really? For those
new in the faith, trying to get our arms around that command can seem like a
monumental task.
I am impressed with how the
author systematically walks the reader through the nuances of each of those areas
of our life where we are to love.
He starts by being medically descriptive in loving with all our heart as
transplant recipients do, loving the donor in a unique way understood only by
the donor and the recipient.
He paints a picture
describing how when we love with our soul we move to a state of awe and
wonder. When we love with our mind
God opens a holy curiosity within us like that of a child. I loved his description of loving with
all our strength and the expenditure of sweat equity for the kingdom.
This book should be read by every Christian. Further, I consider it a book that speaks to anyone who is
on a spiritual journey of discovery. Primal is that well done. Buy the book today and then “Love the
lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind
and with all your strength.”
