I know this author well and believe me, he and Stoked have the goods.
Daniel Day has captured the very real but generally unseen danger of young men and women leaving the safety of their own youth group and landing on the campus of a Christian college. He experienced it first-hand, and he does a masterful job in communicating those realities to the reader.
I am particularly impressed with how he illustrates so much of what the student faces by examining what characters from Scripture faced. No surprise. He writes about the powers of extraordinary faith, passionate prayer, Godly friendships and personal investment. Lest any student feel, consciously or otherwise, that he or she is above it all, Day is clear in his challenge to resist temptation. No student will ever want to sell out after reading Stoked.
Ninety percent of the proceeds from this book go to support missionaries around the world, church planting and scholarships for college students. Daniel and his wife Sara see it as a reverse tithe. How can you not love what this author is doing to advance the Kingdom?
You need to pick up a halfdozen and give them out to every graduating senior you know. Frankly, whether those students are going to a Christian college or not, I would give them one. The book challenges any student to be better and to stoke the fire. Stoked is an outstanding read and a top-pick book. I highly recommend it to you.
